A Police Dog Was Shot in the Head While Chasing Suspect, Reunites With His Partner

“This was a reunion unlike any other.”

Being part of the police means going above and beyond your call of duty, and that is exactly what Officer R.J. Young and his K-9 partner did every day while on the job.

One day, during a chase of a suspect in Anaheim, California, Bruno got shot in the face. The bullet was aimed at the other officers, but Bruno wouldn’t let any of them get hurt so he placed himself in the line of fire to protect them.

Right after the accident, Bruno was rushed to the hospital and everyone prayed for him to survive.

“Bruno was shot point blank, it was a horrific thing to have to watch,” he told ABC News. “My entire world came tumbling down in the matter of a second.”

Officer Young’s prayers were answered. His partner would live. The bullet missed his heart, but injured his jaw and his lungs. He had to undergo two surgeries before he was able to breath on his own again.

The reunion between Bruno and Young touched the hearts of many. It reminded people of the unbreakable friendship between police dogs and their partners.

“The bond is unexplainable, seeing him the way he is, it kills me,” said Young.

Bruno had to retire and is no longer part of the police department but he will always be part of Young’s life. Are you guessing already? Yes, Young adopted Bruno and that means they will get to spend their days together again.

“He’s like a son to me. Bruno will be with me for the rest of my life.”
